Katie Boggess, Program Coordinator

Katie was born and raised in north central Iowa where she was one of seven children. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Politics at Luther College in Decorah, Ia. in 1975.

After college, Katie moved to the Black Hills of South Dakota where she worked as a civilian employee on Ellsworth Air Force Base before moving to Sturgis, S.D. where she worked as an Adult Services and Aging Social Worker for the state of South Dakota for 19 ½ years. Sturgis is well known for the annual motorcycle rally that draws hundreds of thousands of motorcycles from around the world. Katie is the parent of a 26 year old son, Casey, who continues to live and work in Rapid City, S.D. He has been the pride and joy of her life.

In August of 2003, Katie packed up the U-Haul and moved on to a new adventure landing her in Huntsville. Since moving to Huntsville, Katie has enjoyed working as an instructor for developmentally disabled individuals with the Arc of Madison County. Ready for a new adventure, she has taken the position with the Community Network Learning Center here in Valley Gardens. She looks forward to having the opportunity to interact with the Learning Center participants, volunteers and staff. This position began in late August 2007.

When taking time for herself, Katie enjoys working on various craft projects such as quilting and beading (there isn’t a craft Katie isn’t willing to try if she hasn’t already). She also enjoys reading, cooking and gardening/houseplants.
